29 BSPCYEARSBaltic Sea Parliamentary ConferenceTHIRD SESSIONAddresses by observers of the BSPCMr. Prof. Asaf HajiyevAddress by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black SeaEconomic Cooperation (PABSEC), Secretary General of the PABSECSpeech of Mr Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the PABSECat the Digital 29th BSPC on 24 August 2020Asaf Hajiyev thanked the president, secretary-general, the members of parliaments for the highhonour and privilege to address the BSPC on behalf of the Parliamentary Assembly of the BlackSea Cooperation (PABSEC). He wished his Baltic colleagues good work for their general assembly.Noting that the pandemic had reduced the frame of their cooperation, he was grateful for ITenabling them to continue their activity. He informed his audience that during the last twomonths, the PABSEC had organised three meetings of committees and also the general assemblywhich had taken place at the beginning of August 2020. Three further committee meetings wereplanned for September and October. A topic in all of these discussions would be the coronaviruspandemic, its economic, political and social aspects. It was their hope that in early December, on9/10 December, the general assembly would take place in Athens, Greece. Mr Hajiyev also offeredhis hope that a representative from the BSPC could participate in the PABSEC meeting.The speaker said that the relation with the Black Sea Parliamentary Conference was very good, andhe was glad it had been mentioned in the intervention of the president of the BSPC, Mr ValerijusSimulik. Mr Hajiyev hoped that their joint meeting which had been planned for Stockholm wouldtake place physically, although none could know when that would be.He went on to say a few words about the damages the coronavirus had wrought because today, thedamage to the world economy was estimated to be more than 2.5 trillion US dollars. This sum,he underlined, was unimaginably huge. Therefore, it was vital to pay attention to local business. Itwas very important in this period. A very good example could be Turkey, Mr Hajiyev said, becausethey were developing their local business as well as e-trade and also e-business. As a parliamentaryassembly, he thought it was their obligation to pursue this.Once again, Mr Hajiyev wished the Baltic parliamentarians good work and hoped that their goodrelations would continue. To all of his listeners, he wished success and very importantly goodhealth. He thanked them for the invitation to participate in this meeting.
