Baltic Sea Parliamentary Youth Forum 2024Final RecommendationsEnergy and security▪ The involved actors should enhance the security and resilience of the energy infrastructureby investing in research and development of outdated systems, together with the privatesector as well as the region’s strategic partners, supplementing the existing NATO initiatives.▪ Strengthen the resilience of maritime critical infrastructure by identifying the most vulnerableareas through comprehensive mapping .This includes joint risk assessments, coordinated training, and real -time information sharingbetween public and private sectors for rapid, effective threat response.Energy and sustainability▪ In regional energy consumption, accelerate the full phase -out of fossil fuels, starting withnon-EU sources such as, and especially, the Russian Federation. Allocate resources towardssustainable energy. Rethink the regional power grid , prioritising its modernisation and smartoptimisation in storage and distribution.▪ Priorities a just transition by working together to lower energy prices , build trust in institutions ,and support fragile communities . Additionally, it is crucial to provide strong support for thosewhose jobs may be at risk due to the green transition by reskilling them, ensuring that no oneis left behind as we move toward a more sustainable future.Energy and youth participation▪ Integrating youth perspectives into regional energy policy processes: Youth organisationsshould be given a permanent and supported place in decision -making processes in theBaltic Sea Region . This can be done by establishing formal structures like National YouthAdvisory Bodies for energy independence, security, andsustainability under the Ministry of Energy or equivalent governmental agency for eachBSPC parliament, ensuring a strong mandate of the members and recognition of theadvisory bodies.▪ Advancing green education and empowering youth in the energy sector: Promote access togreen education and encourage energy companies to create opportunities for youngpeople . This can be achieved by integrating sustainable energy topics into existingprogramms, enabling exchange programmes in the region, fostering life long learningopportunities on relevant topics, as well as encouraging the energy sector to developinternsh ips and mentorships for young people to both educate young people, but alsocreate inerest in the sector.
